Should You Send Old or New SAT Scores Expert Guide

Should You Send Old or New SAT Scores Expert Guide SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you've taken the old SAT and the redesigned SAT, you may be wondering which scores you should send to colleges. Should you send all your scores? Should you just send your results from the test with the highest average section scores? In this article, I'll explain the factors to consider when determining whether you should send old or new SAT scores. General Differences Between Old and New SAT Scores The old SAT was out of 2400 and the new one is out of 1600. The new SAT combines Reading and Writing into one section score out of 800. Reading and Writing were two separate sections on the old SAT, and both were out of 800. Also, the essay was a mandatory component of the Writing section on the old SAT. Now, the essay is optional- it's its own section and it doesn't impact your overall SAT score. Some schools will require the essay on the new SAT, so check the requirements of the colleges you're applying to. Here's a more thorough breakdown of the old SAT vs. the new one. Most Schools Accept Both the Old and New SATs For the classes of 2017 and 2018, the vast majority of schools will accept scores from the old SAT and the redesigned SAT, but make sure you check the specific policies for the schools you’re applying to. You have to send the scores that the school will accept, and while most colleges will accept scores from either version, some may only accept scores from the new SAT. For example, Yale will accept scores from the old SAT for the classes of 2017 and 2018, but will only accept scores from the new SAT for the classes of 2019 and beyond. Northwestern will accept scores from the old test for the class of 2017, but it's one of the few schools that won't accept scores from the old test for the class of 2018. Look at each school’s website to find its requirements. If you can’t find information there, call the admissions office. Some colleges may only accept scores from the new SAT. Why Does It Matter Which Scores You Send? If you’ve taken the old SAT and the current SAT, you may think that you can send scores from both tests and that colleges will just consider your highest section scores or your highest overall score. Actually, though, that may not be true. Most Schools Don't Superscore Between the Old and New SAT Superscoring is the process by which colleges consider your highest section scores across all dates you took the SAT. Even schools that do superscore are unlikely to do so between the old test and the current one. If you did better on Reading on the old test and better on Math on the new one, colleges probably won't consider both section scores when evaluating your SAT scores. New SAT Scores Are Slightly Inflated Also, schools most likely won’t just focus on the higher overall score between the two tests because scores on the new test are somewhat inflated. For example, an 1100 on the new SAT is equivalent to a 1020 on the Critical Reading and Math sections of the old SAT. Therefore, if you averaged 550 per section on the new SAT and a 520 per section on the old SAT, you actually did better on the old SAT despite having a higher score on the new one. What matters to colleges isn't your score but how well you did relative to other college applicants. What Should You Do? Here are the various options you have if you’re deciding between sending your old scores and new scores. Send Both You’ll have to use this option for colleges that require you to send all your scores. If you're given a choice, sending scores from the old test and the new one may be a good option if you did significantly better on Reading or Math on one test vs. the other, but your overall scores were comparable. Even if the school won’t superscore between the two tests, they’ll be less likely to think you have any skill deficiencies. For example, let’s say you got a 650 in Math on the old test and a 500 in Critical Reading. If, on the new test, you got a 620 on Reading and Writing and a 550 on Math, your overall scores would be similar, but the old test would show much stronger math skills and the new test results would show stronger reading comprehension. Therefore, you can send both if your section scores on the different versions of the test show different strengths or minimize your weaknesses. Also, you may want to send both if you reached your target scores on both the old and the new tests. If you got a 2300 on the old test and a 1590 on the new test, feel free to send both scores. Showing good scores on two different tests may be more impressive to colleges. Use Concordance Tables and Send the Best Score Remember that the scores on the new SAT aren’t equivalent to those on the old SAT; the scores on the new test are slightly higher. Therefore, the SAT has created concordance tables to convert new scores to old scores and vice versa. You can use these tables to determine which score is best and then send the best score. This option probably makes the most sense for the majority of students. Send the Old SAT The argument for just sending your scores from the old SAT is that colleges are much more familiar with the old SAT and may be able to more easily interpret your scores. This could be a good option for students who did the same or better on the old SAT. Because scores on the new SAT are slightly inflated, an equivalent score on the old SAT is more impressive. Analysis of the music video Destiny's Child - Cater 2 U Essay

Analysis of the music video Destiny's Child - Cater 2 U - Essay Example The song, Cater 2 U, has a general gendered meaning; that men will enjoy the rewards of love and compassion following a point where their female lovers notice that they are working hard. The music video casts feminine figures whose romantic actions could create an impression to the hard working man. In addition, it acts as a clear depiction of the level to which a hardworking man inspires his female companion (Sfetcu 16). When a woman notices the hardworking nature of her male lover, she will gain inspiration to make such a man happy and thus, want to accommodate him in a great way. In this perspective, a woman's submission to a man would be best when the man deserves it and thus, gives it back; a hardworking man furnishes her woman and gets back all the lovely accommodation. Form The text's enhanced application of formal techniques allows it to reinforce the overall meaning. The music video's shooting took place at a desert, which depicts a decision by the trio to go natural, which makes the video more authentic. The desert scenery, as well as the exquisiteness of the trio mainly enhances the clip. However, the presence of male actors seems to be superfluous to the music video's scene of female pleasures and bodies. However, the enriching nature of the feminine shooting acts as a balancing factor, which helps in driving the theme that the male actors depict to the audience. The natural lighting of the music video's shooting period helps in showing the natural feminine look of the females in the music video.

Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Werner Herzog Essay

Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Werner Herzog - Essay Example One important lesson that can be derived from the film pertains to the consequences of selfish desires of the leaders like Pizarro, Guzman, and Aguirre. All of them were given the opportunity to lead the expedition, but all of them failed because of some problems with their character and leadership system. Character is an important factor in the implementation of leadership responsibilities. In this film however, the immaturity of the leaders was presented by the way they come up with their decisions and in their ability to handle the pressures that surround them. â€Å"To lead is to serve†. This is the ideal principle of leadership but not even one of the three leaders has shown such example. For instance, Pizarro has exercised selfish dictatorship. His system might be effective in some respects but the effect was not good enough. This is because he was too insensitive with the situation that was taking place with his men. He did not think deeply about the possible consequences of his decision. In one instance, he sent out forty of his men to the dangerous Amazon River and jungle without realizing how this may impact them. He placed the live of his men at risk even if he knew that the Amazon River and the jungle will be treacherous for the expedition. Evidently, Pizarro had abused and mishandled his power. Guzman, on the other hand, displayed avariciousness in his leadership regime. More specifically, he deprived his men with their basic needs such as food. He wanted only to take care of himself and made sure that he has a good supply of food. Meanwhile, he let the men who are serving him go hungry and thirsty.

Personal Narrative: Qualities that make me a Good Husband Essay

I am a married man, and my wonderful wife feels that I am an extremely successful husband. Surprisingly, I have never tried to be an extraordinary husband. All I have done is to maintain a very simple family life, observing some basic principles, which others can learn from. I didn?t think that I was such a good husband, but I always felt that we had a very joyful and happy life. This is such an intense feeling that no words can fully express. I believe this feeling can be called a ?total love?. Perhaps all husbands and wives need to know the nature and level of love they may have. Accordingly, I asked my wife if she loved me and why. She gave me some interesting information about myself which I had never thought of. Not only did I discover myself through her, I also discovered what a critical, sharp-eyed observer, and perceptive lover she is as a good wife. It may be worth citing here the qualities which impressed my pragmatic wife. I may also suggest those qualities to be the 'ten commandments' of a successful husband. One: I am a ?full time husband? when I am with her My wife understands that I am a very busy man, involved in my own work as an accountant, and as a voluntary social activist devoting a substantial amount of time in dealing with social issues in the local area. However, I am very much aware of the fact that I should be a ?full time husband? whenever I am with her either at home or elsewhere. I have a very good time management system in place, everyone involved with me has a certain time, however, I never forget my family (and my wife in particular) when I am away from them. I try not to interrupt our family time with any external issues. For example, I never pick up the phone or mobile when I am at home... ...love is important because it?s a game of 'give and take', not 'take and give'. However, I always demand less from her and I make every effort to give her more. I worry about what I do, and really do not bother about what she is doing for me. It provides evidence of my sincerity, commitment and devotion to her. In return, she keeps me deep in her heart. Very proudly, my wife also tries her best to do everything possible for me. As a result, this reciprocity makes us both enjoy our deepest love and a happy family life. Ten: I am unsatisfied with my job One of the things that my wife likes best about me is that I am always apologising for not doing enough for her. I admit that the love and care I give her is much less than she actually deserves. It makes me polite and humble and further pushes me to do better in my love, affection, approach and treatment of her. Can videogames cause an andrenaline response Essay

Abstract Can video games cause an adrenaline response? Our group thinks that playing video games will affect your adrenaline response because we think it will increase your breathing rate, heart rate, and pain tolerance. For this experiment, Richard and Matthew played Black Ops 2 and then we tested their reflexes, breathing rate, and pain tolerance. We compared it to the test we took before playing the game and the results was the breathing rate, reflexes, and heart attack increases which proves our point that video games does affect an adrenaline response. Introduction Your body works in many ways to help keep homeostasis, where all internal processes are stable and constant. Your body uses the sympathetic nervous system to help deal stress and stressful situations. The nervous system is arranged with a fight or flight response, also called the acute stress response, to increase your ability to survive when in danger. The response is provoked instinctively in reaction to a recognized threat survival than to motivate consciously or by choice, and alters your body’s systems to ready you to either to fight the danger or to avoid by running away. When your mind is focused on watching a horror movie or playing a videogame with intense action, even though you might not be in real danger, your adrenal medulla gland still continues to start up because of your stressed state. It releases hormones and a surge of adrenaline that could help you confront or escape by increasing blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rate, transformation of fat into available energy, and dilating pupils. All of these factors function together to raise your strength and speed. Dilated pupils help you see more clearly, and muscle tension and increases blood flow readies your muscles for action and heighten agility. During an adrenaline response, your body responses increases perspiration to prevent overheating due to the raised rate that you’re expending energy. Your body even increases how fast your blood coagulates so that if you’re injured, you’ll experience less blood loss. Decreased or no awareness of pain, called analgesia, is also an effect of these life preserving hormones. Method 1. First, we have to collect information about the test the subjects. We  will collect their ages, genders, and the experience they had with the game. 2. Then, we will collect the subject’s breathing rate by counting the number of breaths the person takes in one minute. 3. We will also take the subject’s pulse rate counting the number the of times the heart beats in one minute. 4. After that, we will test the subject’s reaction time. We will use the ruler test and test him four times and find the average. 5. We will then tell the subject to play for 10 minutes, and after he is done, we will measure his breathing rate and record it down. 6. Then, we will tell the subject to continue for 5 minutes. We will pause the game and take the subject’s pulse rate and reaction time. 7. Then, we will resume for another for another five minutes and we will poke him 15 times for pain tolerance and ask him after he played if he felt anything. 8. Finally, we will record all of the data and use the same steps for testing the second subject.

Teaching A Foreign Language The Direct Method - 2375 Words

Teachers play a key role in the students’ proficiency in acquisition of a foreign language and consequently, prominent debates about using one method or another in order to make the learning process more effective are crowding the bookshelves in libraries. Despite this outstanding proliferation a clear response is still not given. This essay will discuss many aspects of one of the major methods used when teaching a foreign language: the Direct Method, an approach that sets forth something different in teaching and learning procedures. Waldermar Marton (1988:2) defines a language teaching strategy as ‘a globally conceived set of pedagogical procedures imposing a definite learning strategy on the learner directly leading to the development†¦show more content†¦Richards and S.Rodgers (1986:9) collected Sauveur and his supporters’ thoughts: ‘a foreign language could be taught without translation or the use of the learner’s native tongue if meaning was conveyed directly through demonstration and action’. Being so broad the studies about methods it is not difficult to come across others which share many features with the Direct Method as does the Communicative Language Teaching for which Waldemar Marton (1988:37) ‘covers a whole spectrum of somewhat differing orientations and procedures’. In this approach, communication is the main goal and the teacher is the responsible of encouraging the students to speak in the new target language. Seyedhamed and Sarimah (n.d.) claimed that this method provides a meticulous learning process since ‘the activities in a classroom that is run through CLT are based on the needs of learners in real life communicative situation whether in written or spoken communication’. However, these authors (n.d.) also criticized this method for being inaccurate due to the little effort devoted to the correction of mistakes ‘it was found that 58 percent of them agreed that CLT produces fluent but inaccurate learners’. Therefore, this essay is going to focus on the Direct Method since shares the same aim which is to achieve expertise in oral skills but adding up a slight nuance: it attempts to conceive a complete learner with the ability of beingShow MoreRelatedDirect Method in Foreign Language Teaching5667 Words   |  23 PagesDirect method Innovation in foreign language teaching began in the 19th century and, very rapidly, in the 20th century, leading to a number of different methodologies, sometimes conflicting, each trying to be a major improvement over the last or other contemporary methods.
