Bistocchi’s, My Favorite Restaurant Essay Example

Bistocchi’s, My Favorite Restaurant Essay Italian, American, Spanish, Asian and other cuisines may entice one’s palate. However, there can only be one that could really capture one’s soul with merely the smell of the dish coming out from the kitchen. For me, there is only one restaurant in Dunmore that satisfies my palate and captivates my soul—a restaurant established by the Italian couple, Angelo and Yolanda Bistocchi. People come and go in Bistocchi’s Restaurant for a various reasons. Some people feel comfortable and well-attended to with the friendly service that they give them. Some people greatly appreciate the delightful menu. Others simply love the ambiance and the music being played in this restaurant. In my case, I come back to my favorite restaurant, Bistaccho’ all the time for all of these reasons. A ten-minute walk towards the south of my house brings me to this Italian restaurant that features a wide variety of dishes that everyone would love. Upon arrival to what may seem an extension of my home is a bar. Behind it is a sixty-year-old bartender that would greet you with a warm welcome as soon as you step in the place. To first-time customers, this man seems only to be a bartender greeting them a good day. But to all of us who has been with this institution since it first opened its doors in 1982, the man behind the bar is Butchie, a good old friend. Walking towards the restaurant part of Bistocchi’s allows you to meet the dedicated owner of the restaurant, Brenda. Brenda manages her restaurant well by being hands-on. You could always see her in the restaurant welcoming and waiting customers. She welcomes you with a big smile and makes you feel comfortable like the way one would welcome a guest in one’s home. Name, Butchie and Brenda lighten up my dining experience. However, it is never complete without the superb dishes that they are offering. Bistocchi’s, being an outstanding Italian restaurant, offers a wide variety of north Italian dishes. Some of these dishes are traditional family recipes handed down by the original restaurant owners, the parents of Butchie and Brenda. Some these are among the customers’ favorites. â€Å"Family traditions secret recipe for great Italian restaurants in region†, an article written by Marita Dempsey Lowman from the Time’s Tribune, describes some of the dishes, which are the restaurant’s big seller. Yolanda Salad, a big hit in the restaurant, is mixture of greens with anchovies, dry blue cheese and hot peppers as toppings. Another specialty is dish that the previous owners, Angelo and Yolanda, named after their daughter. Imagine four varieties of Italian cheese seasoning a roasted chicken breast that would lift up your down spirits. This uplifting dish is called the Chicken Brenda. Aside from these two traditional family dishes, the restaurant is also well-know for homemade cheese lasagna, veal franchese and pork chops calabrese. Of all these superb dishes, there are only two dishes that make me go back to this wondrous place: ceasar salad and their famous lasagna. Every week, I would pay Butchie and Brenda a visit to have a taste of the ceasar salad which is enhanced by loads of garlic. Sometimes, I order them for three consecutive days.   After getting enough of this salad for big craving, I order the hearty and flavorful homemade cheese lasagna to satisfy the other side of my palate. On times when I have dinner at Bistaccho’s, I make sure that I get a taste of an Italian-aniseed flavored wine called sambuca. After every dish, I finish off with a slice of cheesecake and coffee. Name, Aside from the wonderful people and the hearty food at Bistaccho’s, every dining experience is accompanied by the cozy ambiance of the place. The place is decorated with Italian furnishings while the wall is painted in red and gold. These walls are brought to life by hanging pictures of customers, some of which are celebrities. The sense of sight and taste are not the only senses being satisfied when you visit Bistaccho’s. Sinatra’s songs are usually playing in the restaurant since it is the family’s favorite. You can also dance to the disco music playing on the jukebox. Neil Diamond’s fans need not to worry since they could always find his songs on the jukebox. Bistaccho’s restaurant is an Italian restaurant established in 1982 by Angelo and Yolanda Bistaccho. Today, it is run by two of the most welcoming and pleasant people that I know, Butchie and Yolanda. Under their management, they continue to offer heart-warming dishes that satisfy any palate. They ensure the highest quality of service to customers while making them feel at home. They maintain the furnishings and Italian decoration in the restaurant which give every customer a feel of the Italian culture. For these reasons, many customers have become loyal to the institution since their first visit. For these same reasons, I go back every week to this restaurant, a place that now seems to be a newly found home.

The Different Types of Money in an Economy

The Different Types of Money in an Economy While it is true that all money in an economy serves three functions, not all money is created equal. Commodity Money Commodity money is money that would have value even if it were not being used as money. (This is usually referred to as having intrinsic value.) Many people cite gold as an example of commodity money since they assert that gold has intrinsic value aside from its monetary properties. While this is true to some degree; gold does, in fact, have a number of uses, its worth noting that the most often-cited uses of gold are for making money and jewelry rather than for making non-ornamental items. Commodity-Backed Money Commodity-backed money is a slight variation on commodity money. While commodity money uses the commodity itself as currency directly, commodity-backed money is money that can be exchanged on demand for a specific commodity. The gold standard is a good example of the use of commodity-backed money- under the gold standard, people were not literally carrying around gold as cash and trading gold directly for goods and services, but the system worked such that currency holders could trade in their currency for a specified amount of gold. Fiat Money Fiat money is money that has no intrinsic value but that has value as money because a government decreed that it has value for that purpose. While somewhat counterintuitive, a monetary system using fiat money is certainly feasible and is, in fact, used by most countries today. Fiat money is possible because the three functions of money a medium of exchange, a unit of account, and a store of value are fulfilled as long as all people in a society acknowledge that the fiat money is a valid form of currency. Commodity-Backed Money vs. Fiat Money Much political discussion centers around the issue of commodity (or, more precisely, commodity-backed) money versus fiat money, but, in reality, the distinction between the two isnt quite as large as people seem to think, for two reasons. First, one objection to fiat money is the lack of intrinsic value, and opponents of fiat money often claim that a system using fiat money is inherently fragile because fiat money doesnt have a non-money value. While this is a valid concern, one must then wonder how a monetary system backed by gold is significantly different. Given that only a small fraction of the worlds gold supply is used for non-ornamental properties, isnt it the case that gold has value mostly because people believe it has value, much like fiat money? Second, opponents of fiat money claim that the ability for a government to print money without having to back it up with a specific commodity is potentially dangerous. This is also a valid concern to some degree, but one that is not entirely prevented by a commodity-backed money system, since its certainly possible for the government to harvest more of the commodity in order to generate more money or to revalue the currency by changing its trade-in value.

Case character Conceptualization Research Paper

Case character Conceptualization - Research Paper Example Nash being a genius mathematician becomes devastated and withdraws himself from society. In this essay an attempt would be made to analyze the case and find a probable solution by making use of the ‘Cognitive Behavioral Theory.’ Presenting the Problem Nash had a mental health problem, schizophrenia, which had surfaced during middle age and stood as a stumbling block between his work and family. The gravity of the problem increased so much that Nash had to leave his job as a professor and eventually became institutionalized. His wife and his roommate Charles stood by Nash, as the depths of his make- believe or imaginary world surfaces. The precipitating set of circumstances could have stemmed from the fact that he was frustrated about not being able to come out with something unique in the mathematical arena, being a Math prodigy himself. His actions of arrogance and anxiety showed the extent of his stress and suffering. This problem had never occurred before but manifest ed itself when he could not accept his failure. He suffered a harrowing experience for many years to come to terms with himself and finally during the 1970’s he makes his foray into the world of academics by returning once again to teaching and research. Relevant History Nash being a Mathematical genius had always aspired to create something original and unique that would be useful to society and the world at large. However, when his attempts failed to materialize, he withdrew himself from social circles and became a recluse in his own world. His obsession about making a significant contribution towards the subject of Math and the failure to achieve it had probably triggered his schizophrenia and led to his institutionalization. As a patient he exhibited his anger and frustration through his actions because he was trapped in a helpless situation. However, his wife Alicia did not give up on him and stood by him all through his suffering years because she had great faith and tr ust in his capacity as an outstanding Mathematician. Interpersonal style When Nash realized that he had failed in his attempt to make the unique contribution towards the subject he loved so much, it affected him so badly that he withdrew himself from social circles and led the life of a recluse, till he could function no longer and had to be institutionalized. It was the faith and love of his wife Alicia together with medical help that gradually brought him around from the depths of his misery, to once again surface back to normal life and finally win the much coveted Nobel Prize for his great contribution towards Economics in 1994. Alicia is steadfast in her duty as a loyal wife and brings about her husband’s redemption by helping him triumph over his misery and make a success of himself by winning the Nobel Prize. In this case there were polarities related to pursuit, withdrawal and submission. These polarities can be explained thus – Nash tried hard to pursue his dr eam of doing something original and unique in the field of Math, being a Math genius himself. When he found that he could not succeed he became frustrated and withdrew from society. Finally, with great support from his wife and close family and friends, he admits submission and was soon on the road to recovery which eventually helped him to fulfill his long lost dream of making a signific
